Students in the sixth form receive high quality careers guidance from their personal tutors, outside speakers and local university lecturers, which enable them to make informed decisions about their future career choices. As a result, high percentages of students continue on to higher education, including to the country’s most prestigious universities.
Ofsted Inspection Report 2014 - Leadership and Management
At MPW Birmingham we pride ourselves on helping students to reach their true potential. Our admissions policy does not select on prior academic achievement alone and this means that we are able to help students with a wide range of abilities achieve excellent grades and ultimately pursue highly competitive university courses.
For the academic year 2015-2016 MPW Birmingham celebrated record numbers of students leaving with at least three A levels all at grade A*/A and, for the second year running, the most common (modal) outcome at A level was also A*/A. MPW Birmingham has over the years consistently demonstrated a solid track record in achieving excellent academic results with a three year A*-B average of 72%.
In addition to the achievements of our students in absolute terms, we are exceptionally successful in terms of "value added", which measures the considerable distance travelled by our students at A level relative to where they were at GCSE. In 2015, we were placed within the top 10% of providers nationally by the ALPS value added system and placed second of all the independent sixth-form colleges in the UK on the Department for Education's value added measure. In addition, we were greatly honoured that one of our students emerged as the winner of the Conference for Independent Education's national award for Value Added.
The overwhelming majority of our A level students proceed to university to pursue a wide variety of subjects including Dentistry, Law, Medicine, Psychology and Veterinary Science.
