Government & Politics A2 (Political Ideologies Route)

Length of course: 5 half-day sessions
Boards: Edexcel (9GP01) only 

This is a board-specific course focusing on the core topics embedded in both units that make up the Political Ideologies route.

Exam practice is an essential element of the course. While each session is designed around one or two unit topics, the focus will be on how to apply the concepts in an exam context, structure of examination answers and addressing the examination board's A2 assessment objectives: knowledge and understanding; analysis and evaluation; synoptic skills; communication.

Unit 3: Key Themes: Political Ideologies B (6GP03 B)

Students will examine the major ideas of liberalism, conservatism, socialism and anarchism.

Introducing Political Ideologies

  • Liberalism
  • Conservatism
  • Socialism
  • Anarchism 

There will be a focus on both Part A and Part B questions throughout the week.

Unit 4: Extended Themes: Other Ideological Traditions (6GP04 B)

Students will examine the ideological traditions that have developed out of, or emerged in opposition to, liberalism, conservatism and socialism.

  • Nationalism

  • Multiculturalism

There will be a focus on both Part A and Part B questions throughout the week.
