2pm to 6pm daily
The course examines key topic areas and extensive use will be made of exam-based A2 level questions to illustrate relevant principles. Revision notes and model answers will be provided, where appropriate.
We will cover the following units:
Unit 4 6BI04 · The Natural Environment and Species
• Evidence for global warming
• Natural selection and evolution
• Nutrient recycling
• DNA profiling and the polymerase chain reaction
• The structure of bacteria and viruses
• Infectious diseases (AIDS and TB) and immunology
Unit 5 6BI05 · Energy, Exercise and Coordination
• The Heart
• The Nervous System
• Effects Of Exercise
• The Brain
• Imbalances in Brain Chemicals
• The Human Genome Project
Both units are assessed by objective questions, structured questions, short-answer questions and practical-related questions.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the topic areas that students generally find more difficult such as nerve impulses, photosynthesis, respiration, genetics and biotechnology.
6BI06 (Practical and Investigative skills) not covered on this course.
