The course examines key topic areas and extensive use will be made of exam-based A2 level questions to illustrate relevant principles. Revision notes and model answers will be provided where appropriate.

The course consists typically of three of the following unit

Core 3 (C3) Functions; trigonometry; exponentials and logarithms; further calculus; numerical methods.

Core 4 (C4) Partial fractions; binomial expansions; further calculus; differential equations; vectors.

Mechanics 1 (M1) Kinematics; variable acceleration; resolving forces; Newton’s laws of motion; statics; dynamics; collisions.

Mechanics 2 (M2) General equilibrium; projectile motion; circular motion; work, energy and power; Newton’s experimental law.

Statistics 1 (S1) Descriptive statistics; probability; permutations and combinations; correlation and regression; discrete random variables; binomial and geometric distributions.

Statistics 2 (S2) Confidence intervals; hypothesis testing; the normal distribution; approximations; probability density functions.

Students can take fewer than three units.

A typical A2 course will be one of the following combinations:
C3/C4/M1                C3/C4/S1                C3/C4/M2                C3/C4/S2

Further Mathematics units may be available on request.

It is possible for a student to take fewer than three units. When this occurs the course
fee will be adjusted on a pro rata basis.

Students may wish to take a combination of AS and A2 units in a single week and our
timetable is sufficiently flexible to accommodate this. If you would like any more details
