1 Philosophy of Religion
i. Religious Language: analogy and symbol; verification and falsification debates; language games
ii. The work of scholars: critiques of religious belief; Russell and Copleston
iii. Influences of developments in religious belief: life after death across religious traditions; religion and science
2 Religion and Ethics
i. Ethical Language; Meta-ethics; the relationship between religion and morality
ii. Deontology, virtue ethics and the work of scholars (Kant, Aristotle)
iii. Medical Ethics: beginning and ending life issues
3 Study of Christianity
i. Social and historical developments: science; secularisation; new movements in theology
ii. Works of scholars: Atonement theory; Karl Barth and John Hick
iii. Religion and Society: Pluralism and diversity; equality and discrimination - gender

Unit 6 - RS04 Implications One-day seminars will be offered during Weeks 1 and 2, as follows: 1 · Philosphy of Religion Ayer, Donovan, and Westphal 2 · Ethics Jamieson, La Follette and Schneewind 3 · New Testament Who is Jesus Christ? Teachings of Jesus Christ Death and Resurrection The dates of the seminars will be allocated subject to demand; students need to be prepared to be flexible if we are to accommodate all requests.
