Science Double Award (Physics) IGCSE

Science Double Award (Physics) IGCSE

Course Length

One or two years.

The course

Physics is the study of why and how the universe works. The course covers a range of topics: from the very small (Solids, Liquids and Gases, and Radioactivity and Particle Physics) to the very large (The evolution of Stars and the Universe). You will learn how to comprehend the world in terms of fundamental ideas, and understand how to predict its future behaviour. Students cover a wide range of relevant topics, and will have many opportunities to complete practical work. The lessons are structured in such a way that students can ask questions to build and expand their knowledge of the subject and its relevance to their lives.

Students who gain high results in double Science have a strong base for A level study in any of the sciences. The physics topics of the IGCSE double science course cover the same eight sections as the Physics IGCSE.

What skills do I need?

A scientist should be very inquisitive about the world and have a wish to understand how it works. You should be keen to use mathematics and able to use precise technical terms, as well as be happy to produce and use diagrams of complex ideas. You should also want to complete practical work, as much of the work scientists do involves completing experiments.

How is the course assessed?

All the content will be assessed through a 2-hour written examination. The paper is weighted at 33.3% of the qualification. A mixture of different question styles, including multiple-choice questions, short answer questions, calculations and extended open response questions.
