The school’s Chinese New Year celebration was a vibrant and engaging event that successfully brought the community together while showcasing elements of Chinese culture. One of the highlights of the evening was the dragon performance, which was energetic and visually striking. The coordinated movements of the performers, combined with the bright colours of the dragon, created an exciting atmosphere and reflected the traditional significance of the dance in bringing good luck and prosperity.

Another key aspect of the event was the variety of Chinese food available. Students had the opportunity to try different dishes, which added an authentic cultural experience and made the celebration more immersive and enjoyable.

Importantly, the event created a strong sense of unity within the school. It brought together both boarding and day students, allowing them to connect and learn about Chinese traditions in a shared environment. Teachers were also present, observing and supporting the performances, which added to the sense of occasion and importance.

After the official performances concluded, the event became more interactive with a range of cultural activities and competitions. These included a Chinese calligraphy masterclass, where students could learn traditional writing techniques, as well as fun challenges such as using chopsticks to complete tasks like picking up marshmallows. These activities encouraged participation and made the cultural learning experience more hands-on.

To reward participation, prizes were given to the winners, including Chinese sweets, while the top winner received a voucher for Blank Street.

Overall, the Chinese New Year event was both educational and entertaining, successfully celebrating culture while strengthening the school community.
