Welcome to MPW Birmingham – one of the UK’s leading independent sixth-form colleges; a special place to study that constantly inspires and motivates its students to achieve beyond their expectations.
At MPW we start by offering a wide range of A level and GCSE courses, giving students the opportunity of taking subjects that are going to interest them the most. We then pride ourselves on making sure that we bring out the absolute best in the students we work with. Our goal is to develop confidence, maturity, knowledge and skills in all of our students, viewing them as individuals with their own unique talents. Visitors to the College instantly pick up on our friendly and inclusive atmosphere. We endeavour to create a learning culture in which our students feel valued and enjoy working hard. We have high expectations and provide an academically disciplined college in which to learn.
MPW has a distinct approach to education with small classes of fewer than 10 students. We also place a great emphasis upon perfecting examination technique and our weekly Timed Assignments mean that continuous revision and writing answers under exam conditions become second nature to our students. Many of our tutors are public examiners, providing them with a real insight into what the examination boards are looking for.
Each student works closely with a Personal Tutor who provides a high level of personal care and develops a unique Educational Progress Plan so that students can reflect on and monitor their development throughout their courses at MPW. We provide a wealth of expertise not just academically but also in terms of career and university support and do all that we can to ensure that every one of our students reaches their potential. Our students are encouraged to set goals and aim high, often achieving results that they did not think were possible. Our mission is very much about getting both staff and students to go that extra mile.
We have extremely high expectations regarding attendance, punctuality and work completion. When students leave MPW Birmingham they do so with well-grounded study skills and the self-discipline needed to thrive at university and the world of work.
We help develop our students socially. Our enrichment programme is currently the most extensive it has ever been with opportunities in sport, debating, Model United Nations, community projects and Duke of Edinburgh amongst some of the activities on offer.
Academic success is brought about by hard work but we also believe that students are most likely to obtain success if they feel happy and supported and have a voice which can be heard. We believe in an open community in which parents, staff and students work closely together.
