Tune Out or Tune In report

Tune Out or Tune In report

Does listening to music while studying improve revision?

This is a question that exercises many parents, especially at this time of year with A level and GCSE exam season in full swing. We commissioned Dr. Aric Sigman, a respected health education psychologist, to examine existing research to find the answer to this vexed question.

His findings, outlined in our report, Tune Out or Tune In, suggest that there is no simple yes or no answer. The report explores situations where music might be beneficial, how a student’s personality plays a role in their study preferences, and the effects that different types of music can have on a student’s mind.

It concludes with practical, evidence-based guidance to help students to create a study environment that works effectively for them, and for parents to understand their teenager’s choices.
