Student Council makes an impact
At MPW Birmingham, we believe that empowering students to share their thoughts and opinions is an essential part of college life. A strong student voice helps us grow and improve as a community. The more we engage in open dialogue, the quicker we can make meaningful changes that enhance the overall student experience.
Weekly meetings with Personal Tutors give every student a dedicated space to express their views, whether it’s about their studies, wellbeing, or general life at college. In addition to this, students are encouraged to use our digital reporting system—QR codes placed around campus make it easy to share feedback anonymously and conveniently.
One of the most influential platforms for student input is the Student Council. Meeting throughout the year, the council discusses topics that impact the college community and serves as a springboard for new ideas and events. It’s a space where students can actively shape the future of college life.
This year, the Student Council has been particularly active in influencing the PSHE program, helping plan and deliver sessions on ‘Sharing Culture’. The college is made up of a rich diversity of people and the session was designed to give students a platform to share their cultural experiences.
The Student Council were also invited to take part in a research project organised by the University of Birmingham which aimed to understand the impact of social media on a young person’s mental health. In addition to participating in these forward-thinking projects, the group have also set up a games club in the college where students can come and take play board games with other students and in the process make new friends.
The Student Council will be returning in the next academic year, and they’re always eager to welcome new members. If you’re passionate about making a difference, this is your chance to be heard and help shape our college community.
