A unique year culminates in celebrations

Posted by: Frankie Frangeskou, Director of Studies - 11 August 2021 - MPW Cambridge - Read time: 5 Minutes

It’s been a very strange year for all of us, both near and far. There have been many obstacles to conquer but conquer these obstacles we have. MPW Cambridge has always fostered an ethos of togetherness, working as one to achieve the very best we can, and this has never been more evident than this year. While all of our members of staff have worked tirelessly to help students achieve their very best, it is the students who are the heroes of our story this year, and they have been justly rewarded with outstanding A level results.

With government restrictions lifted, once again college was buzzing with anticipation and excitement. We were happy to be able to welcome students and parents into our building! We were able to both feel and see the smiles and happiness emanating from students, parents and staff. So why the celebrations?

Once again, our students achieved phenomenal grades however, it was student and parent comments that were also great cause for celebration…

"I just wanted to let you know how grateful my son and I are to his Personal Tutor for all his help and assistance in what has been a very challenging year. He has been kind, supportive and patient and helped both of us immeasurably, helping my son to organise his life as well as his work."

"I am incredibly happy that you were my teacher. You believed in me which is something rarely seen from teachers in my country. Thank you!"

"It is almost impossible to describe the turnaround that all of you at MPW have achieved. Two years ago, we had a boy who was basically lost to us and lost in his previous college’s system. Over the last two years you have created a young man with a keen curiosity in his subjects and a real enjoyment of learning and understanding."

It is the dedication of all of our staff, from teachers, to administrative colleagues, IT experts, the catering team and of course, our amazing cleaners, that has shaped the success of MPW Cambridge, helping us to adapt to a new way of working. The tireless efforts of our IT department ensured that we were able to train staff and students to use our online platforms before the very first lockdown. This allowed for a smooth transition to online teaching followed by blended learning environments, ensuring that all students were able to access their timetables with ease. In the same way, our Timed Assignments (weekly tests) and students’ one-to-one, weekly meetings with their Personal Tutors remained undisrupted. Indeed, never have the Personal Tutor meetings been more important, guiding students both academically and emotionally through this academic year.

And now, our Class of 2021 is looking forward to exciting, new endeavors. Many are going on to study a variety of subjects such as Medicine, Law and Engineering at top universities across the UK and internationally. Others have decided on a gap year to hopefully travel and work. Whichever path they have chosen, all of us at MPW Cambridge are immensely proud of the strong and resilient young people that they have become and we are honoured to have them join our alumni community. We very much hope to catch-up with many of them again at our annual Celebration of Achievement evening in December.

All of us at MPW Cambridge are looking forward to welcoming our Class of 2022 and celebrating their successes next year. Whether students are commencing an A level education for the first time or whether they are with us to improve upon their current grades, we will work together to develop a personalised combination of course structures to suit them and to help them achieve. From one-year A level courses to two year courses, we will formulate a plan together that will work for them.

If MPW Cambridge’s uniqueness appeals to you, we would love to hear from you. Call us to make an appointment with a member of our senior management team who will take the time to discuss your requirements with you in detail and show you around our wonderful college. We will also be hosting our Autumn Open Event in October, an ideal opportunity to see our students and staff working together in our daily environment. We look forward to welcoming you.
