This course provides help with skills useful for the various IGCSE/GCSE English Language exams in their current formats. The course will utilise exercises taken from a variety of examination papers with the aim of meeting the needs of all those who enrol. We cater for both GCSE and IGCSE within the same group, though where possible we will stream groups.
The following areas will be covered. The length of time spent on each one may vary slightly from the following outline in order to take into account, the specific needs of students within a particular group.

Writing from a stimulus
Using specified forms (e.g. diary, letter, talk, leaflet)

Preparing for the exams, advice for the final weeks of revision
Reading
Reading and understanding texts with insight and engagement
Developing and sustaining interpretations of writers’ ideas and perspectives
Understanding and making some evaluation of how writers use linguistic and structural devices to achieve their effects
Writing
Communicating clearly and appropriately, using and adapting forms for different readers and purposes
Organising ideas into sentences, paragraphs and whole texts using a variety of linguistic and structural features
Using a range of sentence structures effectively, with accurate punctuation and spelling
