Activities & Sports
At MPW, we organise social and physical activities all year round providing our students with a fun and relaxed environment to help them stay healthy, interact with peers who share common interests, enhance leadership skills and prepare for the future.
We believe studies are just part of the student experience; we encourage our students to take part in social events ranging from raising awareness through a charity campaign, joining a debating session or simply stretching their legs and arms at the local climbing centre.
Students who love sport will have plenty of opportunity to meet up with likeminded friends - or make new ones - through a large variety of sports clubs here at MPW.
One-Day Film School
On the second Friday of term, the college invited the Young Film Academy to spend a day with year 12. This organisation helps young film makers to achieve their dreams. The day was split into two parts: the morning was all about learning and practice; and the afternoon was when we really got to work.
Summer Work Experience
In the summer I wanted to gain some experiences to support my studies and future career options. My passion is modern foreign languages and French and Spanish in particular. With this in mind, I contacted one of France’s leading commercial law firms and was offered a week’s work experience in Paris.
Summer Art Exhibition
Towards the end of the summer term, the MPW art exhibition evening private view took place and this year there was as usual, a fantastic range of work to see. All areas of the art department were on display and included ambitiously staged photography, textiles and ceramics along with a comprehensive range of painting and drawing.
World Poetry Day 2017
What is poetry? And can anybody write it or is it a skill of the literary elite? On 21st March, Ian Brinton, editor of The Use of English and a poet himself who has written books on Dickens and Emily Bronte, came to challenge the students to find their own answers to these questions.
Workshop with the Royal Court Theatre
On Friday 28th April, two practitioners from the Royal Court Theatre came to work with the Year 12 and 13 Drama students. The workshop took place at the Drayton Arms Theatre and was an interactive session based on the set text Our Country's Good by Timberlake Wertenbaker.
CIFE Football Tournament
Having won the competition two years running, and going a whole calendar year without tasting defeat, MPW travelled to St George’s Park for the annual CIFE National 7-a-side Football Tournament in fine shape and full of belief.
The MPW football team is a strong one. The boys won the Autumn and Spring Term Leagues this year, both with a match in hand. Fixtures, scores and match reports can be found below and will be updated as the academic year progresses.
Lady Borwick, MP, on Public Service in the Community
On a warm March afternoon, MPW were delighted to welcome RBKC MP Lady Borwick to give the last in our series of Spring Term Principal’s Lectures. Lady Borwick has dedicated her career to working in politics and explained exactly what local MPs are expected to do and how important this work is.
UKMT Senior Maths Challenge 2017
The UKMT Senior Maths Challenge, organised by the University of Leeds, is a competition aimed at the best student mathematicians in the country and is designed to test powers of reasoning and logic in a series of 25 mind bending puzzles. This was MPW’s tenth year in the competition and once again, thanks to some outstanding mathematicians, our students performed extremely well.
