Activities & Sports
At MPW, we organise social and physical activities all year round providing our students with a fun and relaxed environment to help them stay healthy, interact with peers who share common interests, enhance leadership skills and prepare for the future.
We believe studies are just part of the student experience; we encourage our students to take part in social events ranging from raising awareness through a charity campaign, joining a debating session or simply stretching their legs and arms at the local climbing centre.
Students who love sport will have plenty of opportunity to meet up with likeminded friends - or make new ones - through a large variety of sports clubs here at MPW.
Christmas Carol Service
MPW’s Carol Service is one of the highlights of the festive season and this year was no different. We are very grateful to St Augustine’s Church for always hosting this event for us. The church is a beautiful space for such a service and always wonderfully decorated with an enormous tree and golden fairy lights on all its pillars, complementing the dramatic golden reredos
Lunchtime Lecture: The Geography of Health
If you’re a woman born in Kensington and Chelsea, you can look forward to a life expectancy of 91 – a good innings, by all accounts. If you are a man born just a few miles down the road in Deptford/New Cross on the other hand you can expect to live to just 72. This startling contrast took everyone at Dr Paul Turner’s lecture on the Geography of Health by surprise.
One-Day Film School
On 23 September the AS year took part in the One-Day Film School, now a regular event for each new cohort of AS students. Provided by the Young Film Academy, the day’s event is an opportunity for students to meet their peers outside of class time as well as being a fun alternative to their chosen subject choices.
Medical Seminar: An Overview of the Application Process
We were very lucky to have Dr Ricardo Tavares from The Medic Portal joining us for a Medical Seminar as part of this year’s dedicated programme for prospective medics. Dr Tavares spent an hour with our aspiring medics to give them an overview of the application process as well as some top tips on how to succeed along the way.
Summer Art Exhibition 2016
Towards the end of the summer term, the MPW Art Exhibition private view took place and this year there was, as always, a terrific variety of high-quality work on show. For one evening, the college libraries and reception were transformed by a magnificent array of art and design produced this year by students across the department, including ceramics, textiles, and some striking photography, along with an impressive range of painting and drawing. The event was well attended and equally well received with unanimous praise for the variety and creativity of art on display.
Medical School Preparation Programme 2016
This year at MPW we have had a record number of students applying for Medical School and related degrees. Our medical programme has provided a number of speakers with different specialities, as well as laying on training in the various aptitude tests that students need to perform well in to be successful with their application.
UCAS Week 2016
Aimed at giving year 12 a head start prior to the busy beginnings of year 13, UCAS Week helps students explore the various options that will be available to them after leaving school. Of course as the name suggests a large part of this is dedicated to university applications and this year was no different with sessions on: how to approach the personal statement; Oxbridge; Art School; and applying to university in the US.
Gap Year/Vacation Activities Fair 2016
For the sixth year running, the college’s annual Gap Year Fair took place on Wednesday 27th April. MPW students and their parents were treated to a host of inspiring ideas about how to make the most of their spare time during college vacations, as well as informing them about gap-year activities.
