Activities & Sports
At MPW, we organise social and physical activities all year round providing our students with a fun and relaxed environment to help them stay healthy, interact with peers who share common interests, enhance leadership skills and prepare for the future.
We believe studies are just part of the student experience; we encourage our students to take part in social events ranging from raising awareness through a charity campaign, joining a debating session or simply stretching their legs and arms at the local climbing centre.
Students who love sport will have plenty of opportunity to meet up with likeminded friends - or make new ones - through a large variety of sports clubs here at MPW.
The UKMT Senior Maths Challenge, organised by the University of Leeds, is a competition aimed at the best student mathematicians in the country and is designed to test powers of reasoning and logic in a series of 25 mind-bending puzzles. This is MPW’s ninth year in the competition and, once again, thanks to some outstanding mathematicians our students have performed extremely well.
Christmas Carol Service
Our annual Carol Service at St Augustine's Church was a perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit.
Principal's Lecture: Do You Have The Right To Die?
In December, Damian Warburton, the Head of Law and Senior Lecturer in Law at the New College of Humanities, delivered a lecture about the law and euthanasia, in which he questioned the recent rejection of the Assisted Dying (No.2) Bill by the House of Commons.
Hallowe'en Charity Bake Sale
The MPW Year 10 Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award group of 2015/16 held a bake sale for the volunteering part of their Bronze award course. Making the most of it being Hallowe’en, the tables were groaning under the weight of ghoulish treats to raise money for Unicef. Year 10 chose Unicef as they wanted to help with the refugee crisis and at the end of the day a fantastic £400 pounds was raised for charity.
Principal's Lecture: How To Be Appy In The Modern World
At the end of September we were lucky enough to be visited by Salman Chaudhry and Alex Grinkevich, co-founders of the Leap Coding School, who came to MPW to give a lecture on computer coding and the creation of apps.
One Day Film School
On 14th September, the entire AS year came together to take part in this year’s One-Day Film School. The course was provided by the Young Film Academy, who help thousands of students each year in schools across the country complete their first films. This has been a fun and educational event at MPW for many years now, with the bonus that at the start of the academic year it helps to bond the new Year-12 students together.
2015 Summer Art Exhibition
Towards the end of the summer term, the MPW Art Exhibition private view took place and this year there was, as always, a terrific variety of high-quality work on show. For one evening, the college libraries and reception were transformed by a magnificent array of art and design produced this year by students across the department, including ceramics, textiles, and some striking photography, along with an impressive range of painting and drawing. The event was well attended and equally well received, with unanimous praise for the variety and creativity of art on display.

MPW victory in the CIFE football tournament!
Being invited to take part in the first CIFE football tournament which was held at England’s national training facility at St George’s during the Easter break was a unique experience which was possibly the highlight of the year for MPW football. Winning it was the icing on the cake!
