University Support Program
Each year our Year 12 students take part in a two week schedule that starts the process of preparing for university. Students attend workshops including How to Write an Outstanding Personal Statement, Broadening Your Appeal (Extended Project Qualification and voluntary work), Student Finance and a variety of careers talks focusing on vocations such as Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine.
This years program was the most extensive yet. In addition to holding a series of workshops and talks on university and careers related topics, a number of visitors were invited to the college to share their experience and wisdom on various career paths. These included Dr Josh Davies from the University of Birmingham who delivered a lecture to our aspiring medics. Although many of the activities were held in college, students also attended a Robot Demonstration at Aston University. While on campus, the group also visited the Brain Centre and various other departments within the university. The two week schedule concluded with a visit to Bristol University where students were able to experience a day in the life of an undergraduate. With a variety of talks held by the university and opportunities to soak up the sun in the college grounds, our Year 12 students were able to gain a real insight into what if feels like to be a university student.
