Full Time: MPW Cambridge V MPW Birmingham

From previous encounters with Birmingham and a 100% record,  we arrived at the ground, with expectations at an all time high.

From the kick  off, we had a solid start for the first quarter.  and this ended with the ball rolling into the path of Julian Lees who slotted it into the top corner from outside the box.

We looked strong until a extremely weak goal was conceded from a throw in, mainly through miscommunication between players.  This was the team’s first outing and at times it was showing, Birmingham were settling into their stride and were very well organised. They had the luxury of having a core of players from last year’s team. Maintaining a strong backline, and in the middle we were lacking cohesion  as we conceded again late into the game.

Birmingham were very committed and fought hard but  just held onto the win having shown their best performance. It was a very average Cambridge performance with many players struggling with the Astroturf pitch and Birmingham’s high work rate. A very dejected Cambridge team had to endure what seemed like a very long journey home when you’ve lost.

When they come down to Cambridge for the return fixture it will be a different story appearing in the blog.

Yours, Captain
