The UKMT Senior Maths Challenge, organised by the University of Leeds, is a competition aimed at the best student mathematicians in the country and is designed to test powers of reasoning and logic in a series of 25 mind bending puzzles.
2017 marks MPW’s eleventh year in the competition and, once again, thanks to some outstanding mathematicians our students have performed extremely well. Over 82,000 students from the UK compete and 10% of these are awarded Gold, 20% Silver and 30% Bronze prizes in recognition of outstanding achievement. MPW can be proud that this year 10% of our students achieved a Gold award, 19% Silver and a further 38% Bronze. Of note were Yinmeng Li, Mao Xinyan and Katie Chulack, all of whom made it through to the follow-on round, the Senior Kangaroo. Special congratulations to Katie who achieved a Merit in this second stage of the competition.
