Maths + Challenge
The UKMT Senior Maths Challenge, organised by the University of Leeds, is a competition aimed at the best student mathematicians and is designed to test powers of reasoning and logic in a series of 25 mind-bending puzzles. 2013 marks MPW’s seventh year in the competition and, once again, thanks to some outstanding mathematicians, our student cohort has performed extremely well. Out of a total of 50 Entries, MPW achieved 9 Gold, 10 Silver and 14 Bronze certificates. Nationally,
10% of students are awarded Gold, 20% Silver and 30% Bronze prizes in recognition of outstanding achievement. MPW can be proud that this year 18% of our students achieved the Gold award, nearly twice the national average.
Special congratulations go to Yeqin Chen and Minqi Lu, who both achieved a merit, the highest award, in the follow-on round, the Senior Kangaroo.
A2 student Flora Zhang scored an incredible 102 in the challenge, the best performance of any MPW student in the past three years. Flora won a discretionary place in the prestigious BMO Olympiad and we eagerly await her result.
