Each year, the Library team and English department at MPW London join forces to organise a poetry competition in which members of college write a poem inspired by the theme of National Poetry Day in the UK, which this year is “change”. This year's competition is now open, so now is the time to find your inner poet.
Submitted poems will be judged in three categories: years 10 and 11; years 12 and 13 and staff and parents (the latter innovation for this year could prove very interesting!). The winners in each category will be awarded a book token that, it’s hoped, will be spent on poetry. The poems are likely to be published in the college magazine so immortality awaits budding poets.
Not only would we like to see those who write poetry to try their hand in relation to this theme but also students, staff and parents who’ve never written poetry to begin to blossom as poets. Change, we hope is very much in the air this Autumn!
Submissions should be emailed to Kit Martin and to guarantee impartiality we would ask that your name does not appear in the attachment itself. The closing date is 12th November 2018 giving poets half term and just a little longer to pen or mouse their poems.
Winners will be announced by 10th Decemeber 2018 - giving the judges just under a month to read through and consider what we hope will be a bumper crop of poetical outpourings, an Autumnal harvest of “mellow fruitfulness”.
