Richard achieves Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award!
Congratulations to Richard on completing his Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award!
Richard joined MPW in 2013 at which point he had already had completed his Bronze and Silver Awards. He had made good progress towards his Gold Award but with help from MPW has now completed his Gold Award as well. Completing this nationally recognised award is a tremendous achievement by Richard as the criteria for each level of the award becomes more demanding and Richard was required to expand his skill set considerably.
In order to achieve the Gold Award, Richard completed all of the five requisite sections. This included improving his rugby skills, dog training, volunteering, rebuilding the roof of a Neolithic cabin and an arduous expedition in the Brecon Beacons. He will soon be invited to a Royal Occasion where he will be formally be presented with his Gold Award by a member of the Royal Family.
The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is well supported across the college. Year 10 students are all enrolled in the Bronze Award and take part in many college organised activities which count towards this. Other students joining us at different stages in the year are able to take part at any stage either from scratch or continuing the award from their previous school. It is hoped that many other students will follow in Richard’s footsteps and example and take part in the scheme in the coming years.
