Study Skills Day
The new academic year got off to a roaring start thanks to a very successful AS Study Skills Day in September. Students arrived in good spirits, ready for the challenges of the day ahead. The day consisted of a carousel of various workshops run by key members of staff. The workshops were aimed at equipping students with the essential tools for A level study. For example, one such tool was essay-writing, where students were taught the value of planning, organising, drafting and editing their work. Other key activities included improving reading efficiency, academic writing, specific and personal learning styles, revision and memory, to name but a few.
Much emphasis was placed on lifestyle and what teenagers can really do to supplement their learning through things such as healthy eating, exercise and managing stress. All students were given a book to work from, containing not only a copy of the presentations, but also worksheets and learning recourses to consolidate and refer back to what they learned throughout the day. The day also gave students an opportunity to integrate and make new friends. Feedback from students was very encouraging and it is pleasing to note that students are still referring to the skills they acquired on that day.
