MPW Birmingham strikes Gold in CIFE Awards
04 December 2018
For the second year in succession, an international student at MPW Birmingham has won the prestigious Gold Award from the Council for Independent Further Education (CIFE).
Louise Lyu won the Gold Award after obtaining four A* grades in the A level subjects of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Further Mathematics. She is now studying Physics at Imperial College, London. Her success follows on from that of Howard Xu in the previous academic year, who is currently studying Mathematics at the University of Oxford. Louise fought off competition from over twenty colleges and several hundred students to win the award.
In addition to Louise’s award, MPW Birmingham has won an unprecedented two CIFE Value Added Awards for outstanding academic progress and achievement. This award is given to students regarding the distance they have travelled academically.
After achieving three D grades in her A levels, Meg Aston came to MPW Birmingham and completed A levels in Business Studies, Psychology and History obtaining grades A*AB. Meg achieved grades she never thought were possible and puts her success down to the incredible support she received at MPW and the weekly tests she sat. Meg is now reading Business and Management at the University of Reading.
Prany Puparella thought his dreams of attending Medical School were over after he initially obtained BBC in his A levels in Biology, Mathematics and Chemistry. He joined MPW to complete one-year A levels in these subjects augmenting his performance to A*A*A in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics. His success dispels the myth that retake students cannot win places onto highly competitive courses at prestige Russell Group universities such as King’s College, London.
Prany said: “My time at MPW has been invaluable. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the grades I knew I was capable of achieving last year, which definitely knocked my confidence. The support I received from my tutors at MPW was immense both inside and outside the classroom.”
“Along with my Personal Tutor, they ensured I was thoroughly prepared for my examinations and University interviews. I was provided with a vast amount of resources every week in all my subjects, including questions and notes packs, that really helped me to improve my exam technique and if there was ever anything I was unsure of I was encouraged to meet my tutors on a one-to-one basis, which, in addition to the small class sizes helped me to focus and target my learning.”
MPW Birmingham’s CIFE success has been mirrored at MPW London, which has also won three awards. The students will be presented with their awards at a ceremony at the House of Lords next April.
