Geography GCSE

The course

This course focuses on the importance of Geography for understanding the world and for stimulating an interest in places. It aims to inspire students to become global citizens by exploring their place in the world, their values and their responsibilities to other people and the environment.

Geography provides candidates with a clear overall view of the world in the first part of the 21st Century.

Students receive 3 hours of tuition per week.

How is the course assessed?

Unit 1 · Physical  Geography

1 hour 30 minutes exam, 37.5% weighting

This unit consists of two sections. Students must answer one question from Section A, one question from Section B plus one other question.

  • Section A ·  The Restless Earth Rocks, Resources and Scenery Challenge of Weather and Climate Living World
  • Section B · Water on the Land Ice on the Land The Coastal Zone

Unit 2 · Human Geography

1 hour 30 minute exam, 37.5% weighting

This unit consists of two sections. Students must answer one question from Section A, one question from Section B plus one other question.

Unit 3 · Local Fieldwork Investigation

25% weighting

This will be a local Fieldwork investigation of 2000 words, which will be based on Cambridge or the surrounding area. A choice of topic will be made from eleven topics supplied by the AQA Examination Board. This will involve controlled assessment during the academic year.
