This year we entered eight MPW art students for the EpicCiC ‘Art Explosion’ competition sponsored by the Saatchi Gallery. There were a number of categories but MPW students were contesting the 16+ individual award. Of the work submitted around 100 pieces were accepted for display at the Kings road Chelsea theatre galleries. It was with excitement and anticipation that we attended the opening night to see if any of our students were in the running for the top prize.
We were not disappointed. At a packed event, the organisers announced the main 16-19 year category prize winner, our very own Yilin Guo (Brenda), who won the award for her outstanding triptych ‘The stages of existence’. Not only did Brenda receive a certificate and an iPad, but next September her art work will go on display in the prestigious Saatchi Galleries. This is a great achievement and opportunity for Yilin and we are very proud of her.
There could only be one main prize winner but EpicCiC felt that three more of our students should be given special recognition for their work. Arna, Daniella and Tamara all received certificates and an art equipment voucher: Arna for her animal drawings (including the eagle, above); Daniella for her collage and installation piece ‘Memento Mori’; and Tamara for her photography. Of the eight MPW students who entered four received prizes which was a fantastic achievement. The standard of the four other MPW students’ work really stood out and they all should be congratulated for their efforts and hard work. We are looking forward to even more prizes in the future!
