IGCSE Geography Urban Fieldwork: Stratford
In April the IGCSE Geography students embarked on their second fieldwork outing as part of their preparation for their final exam. Yet again the sun was shining as they took up their cameras and recording sheets with the aim of investigating the impacts of urban regeneration around the Olympic Park and its surrounding areas. Briefed with a plan of action from the Field Studies Centre staff, the students carried out a number of field sketches, land use profiles and environmental quality surveys along a transect of the area.
Following a well-earned picnic in the park, they somewhat warily undertook questionnaires with the ‘locals’ around the Westfield shopping centre, concentrating on approaching the more friendly looking residents. At the end of the day the students returned to MPW with a full grasp of the stages involved in carrying out geography fieldwork in an urban area.
